Spotting Our First ArmadilloArmadillos are probably a common sight to residents of Florida, Texas and other southern states, but as Northerners we had never seen one in its natural habitat. The nine banded armadillo is only found in the mid Southern states, so when we saw one waddling along the side of the road, doing whatever it is that armadillos do, I was very excited. I was amazed that it seemed to have no fear as we parked the car on the side of the road so that I could photograph it.
The Serrano IndiansThe Serrano Indians, which means mountain dwellers in Spanish, used to gather and grind acorns during the autumn. The Indian Rock Camp was the ideal location since there were so many large rock outcroppings to work with. It is magical to touch the holes ground into these rocks and to realize women made these over two hundred years ago, and that these holes made the acorn meal used to sustain the Serrano people.
Seems developers are trying to squeeze anything and everything in there. You bring up another perfect example. I couldn’t agree more on the “buffer” of the yard. The Willow City Loop is a 13 mile scenic drive through the hill country canyon area that is a hot spot to see wildflowers. We made the drive (my first time) and saw only a few small patches sad! During our drive up through Johnson City did see our biggest patch yet and on the drive back stopped and took a few pics! They are lovely flowers and this shot was done up with the Pixel Bender plug in for CS5. Its free and I love using it on flowers and landscape is the oilpaint option.
